Spruce Pine Farmers Market

Your first stop for a farmers market around Spruce Pine should definitely be the local Spruce Pine Farmers Market. It’s open on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. from May to October at the NAPA Auto Parts parking lot at 10994 NC-226. It offers all the great farmers market fare, such as artisan bread and baked goods, canned preserves, and farm-fresh dairy, eggs, and meats. Arrive at opening time for the freshest choice of vegetables and hand-picked fruits, grapes, berries, and freshly cut flowers, and fill your bags with the bounty of the harvest.

Main Street Farmers Market in Baskerville

Twenty minutes up the road from Spruce Pine in the quaint little hamlet of Baskerville is the Main Street Farmers Market located at 147 Crimson Laurel Way. It’s open on Saturdays in the spring and summer months from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You’ll find local goat’s cheeses, fresh garden produce, juicy fruits and berries, an assortment of jams and jellies, ciders, free-range eggs, mountain honey, baked goods, soaps, handicrafts, live and dried flowers, and plant starts you can take home to grow in your garden. Goods will vary depending on which vendors are selling and what’s in season when you visit.

The Liars Table

The Liars Table, so named due to the tall tales that can happen with friends around a community table,  is a farm store and coffee shop where you can get farm-fresh produce from the shop’s own farm, as well as other local producers. You can also find handmade chocolates, local eggs, dairy, meat, on-site baked goods, and sourdough bread. The store is located at 8060 N. U.S. Highway 19 E. in Elk Park, just 30 minutes north of Spruce Pine. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

If you’ve missed the weekly farmers market, then this is a great option that provides access to local produce on many days of the week. It even has locally made gift items, such as candles, jewelry, housewares, and beauty products. The Liars Table also offers a community supported agriculture program, where you can get a weekly basket of seasonal produce and a loaf of artisan bread for a flat membership fee of $30 plus a weekly fee or save money by paying upfront for a set number of weeks.

The Market on Oak

Another great store offering local produce, artisan foods, and a wide range of arts and crafts items is the Market on Oak in downtown Spruce Pine. Here, you’ll find North Carolina-made pottery; bath and body products, including goat milk and herbal soaps; and kitchen items, such as pot holders, placemats, wooden utensils, and more. Check out the local jams, jellies, honey, pickles, and other preserves and food items sold in the store. There have even been farmers markets hosted at the store, so keep an eye out for special events.

The Market on Oak is a non-profit retail store dedicated to supporting local North Carolina artists, authors, and farmers and is part of the Blue Ridge Craft Trails. It’s located at 262 Oak Ave. in Spruce Pine and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. If you’re looking for a gift, check out the handmade jewelry of sterling silver, beads, wood, and other materials. Charming Christmas ornaments are sold year-round and include glass items, crocheted snowflakes, and fabric ornaments.

Parkway Flea and Farmers Market

The Parkway Flea and Farmers Market is a consignment and thrift store that’s perfect for shoppers who are more interested in the crafty side of what a regular farmers market offers. Here, you’ll find everything from antiques to flea market items to handmade arts and crafts and even an indoor mini golf course. Browse the different vendors for an array of interesting and unique items you can spend all day looking through. It’s open seasonally on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 14877 Highway 226 S. in Spruce Pine.

Seven Springs Farm

Why not skip the farmers market and head straight to the farm? Seven Springs Farm has a seasonal roadside cafe where you can enjoy organic coffee with the farm’s own goat milk, and delicious farm-fresh meals. Here, you can check out locally made products and more. The family-run farm hosts monthly events and programs, including volunteer days and live music gatherings. You can even rent some of the cute wooden cabins for a farm-stay experience. Seven Springs Farm is located at 3936 NC-197 in beautiful Green Mountain, which is about 30 minutes northeast of Spruce Pine.
